Tom Sellers is one of the rising stars of London’s buzzing restaurant scene, and within just five months of opening his Restaurant Story, at age 26, he received his first Michelin star. The restaurant has received incredible critical acclaim and has been solidly booked out since its opening on Tooley Street in 2013.
Tom trained under some of the greatest chefs in the world. These include Thomas Keller (The French Laundry, Per Se) Rene Redzepi (Noma) and UK-based chef Tom Aikens.
At 16 years of age, Tom took his very first job in a pub kitchen. There, he fell in love with cooking. He moved to London a year later where he received his initial training under Tom Aikens who recognised his true talent.
Tom then spent a few years in the USA working for Thomas Keller, had a short stint at a 3 star in France and was soon head hunted to cook at Noma in Copenhagen. When he returned from Noma two years ago he worked with Adam Byatt at Trinity. During that time Tom hosted his own pop-up restaurant, Foreword, in East London which was a fully booked out, and soon after he found the backing to build and create his first restaurant, Story.
Tom was awarded ‘Breakthrough Chef of the Year’ at the Food and Travel Awards 2013 and in late 2014 opened the Lickfold Inn, a much loved pub in West Sussex. Tom is also an author with his first book, A Kind of Love Story, being published by Orion Books 2016, Tom's book unusually doesn't contain any recipes but is instead the story behind life in a world renowned Michelin starred restaurant.
Tom Sellers also opened a second restaurant in 2016, Restaurant Ours, in a beautiful space in the heart of Kensington serving a modern European Menu.
Tom competed in the 9th series of BBC 2′s Great British Menu, the brief was to create a menu to honour the men and women involved in the DDay landings at a banquet to be held at St Pauls Cathedral. Tom also featured as a mentor on Channel 4's primetime series Burger Bar to Gourmet Star, in which he trained a young greasy spoon cook in his Michelin starred restaurant.
Time Out – “Tom Sellers is the young chef set to make this city sizzle”.
