Marcus's Story

Passionate self-taught chef Marcus Bean entered, and went on to win, the hugely popular Channel 4 Series cooking competition Iron Chef in 2010. Having run a very successful pub in Shropshire with his wife Jenny, Marcus was selected as a contestant for Channel 4’s Iron Chef UK. Marcus breezed through the first two rounds and went on to beat the two Michelin starred chef Martin Blunos, in the final.

Marcus is a regular Chef & Presenter of the Chefs Super Theatre at the BBC Good Food Shows, working with the likes of James Martin, Paul Hollywood, Mary Berry, Tom Kerridge & Many More. His personality & enthusiasm for food make him great to watch.

In 2015, he hosted the new BBC Eat Well Show in London working alongside Davina McCall, Jenni Falconer, Lorraine Pascal, Clean Eating Alice and many more.

Marcus likes to keep fit and has run the London Marathon for different charities on seven occasions (and counting)!

Marcus & Jenny successfully ran the New Inn Baschurch (Shropshire) for eight years, where Marcus honed his skills in the kitchen. In December 2012 they sold the pub to buy the fantastic Brompton Cookery School & Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Brompton also has extensive grounds for growing their own produce, enabling them to share their passion for gardening, as well as cooking.

As well as the cookery school the couple run a successful catering & consulting company from Brompton, which takes them all over the country to cater for everything from PR events to weddings, organising street food events & pop up dining experiences.

Some of the brands Marcus has worked with include:

Ao.com, Havana Club, Sanctuary Spa, Decleor, Bobbi Brown, Patron Tequilla and many more.

Marcus is also the author of a cookery book called Chicken, which was published by Nourish books in 2014.

Marcus has appeared on the following programmes over the years, ITV's This Morning, The Good Food Channel’s Market Kitchen, Channel 4’s What’s Cooking? with Ben Shepherd & Lisa Faulkner & ITV’s children’s cookery show Munch Box.

Jenny & Marcus have three daughters, who also enjoy cooking.
